On March 20, Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Nagorno Karabakh Republic Karen Mirzoyan delivered a speech at the 5th International Media Forum “At the Foot of Ararat” taken place in Yerevan in the framework of the events dedicated to the 100th anniversary of the Armenian Genocide.

In his speech, the NKR Foreign Minister touched upon the National-Liberation Struggle of the Armenians of Artsakh and the path of the national revival passed by the Armenians of Artsakh. Karen Mirzoyan presented the efforts of the people of Artsakh aimed at building a free and open democratic society, as well as the process of state-building in the NKR.

“In the conditions of full blockade, being forced to resist the enemy, which exceeded in number and weapons, the people of Artsakh, to whom Armenia and the Armenian Diaspora had stretched out a helping hand, did not yield and, moreover, managed to consolidate and develop their young statehood in the chaos of war, changing the course of history”, Karen Mirzoyan noted.

In his speech, the NKR Foreign Minister also touched upon the current stage of settlement of the conflict between Azerbaijan and Nagorno Karabakh, noting that unlike Azerbaijan's policy of solving the conflict by force, the NKR doesn't see any alternative to the peaceful settlement.

“The NKR continues using all its efforts for establishing lasting peace and stability. The principled position of Artsakh is that the settlement should be based on respect for the right to peace, equality and self-determination”, noted Karen Mirzoyan.

Speaking of the Armenian Genocide, Karen Mirzoyan stressed that “the Armenian Genocide is not only a history of monstrous crime, unspeakable human tragedy, and deprivation of homeland, but also a history of a person's and nation's power of spirit, endurance, adherence and devotion to human and national values”.

He expressed confidence that the struggle for the recognition and condemnation of the Armenian Genocide has gained universal significance today, because “as demonstrated by the past centenary, the impunity of the crime of genocide leads to new genocides”.
